The forebear of the Victorian Mawbeys was HENRY MAWBEY who arrived in the new province from Tasmania in 1841. How and exactly when he arrived there is still unknown. He was a butcher by trade who took an active interest in horse-racing. Today he is viewed as one of the state's pioneers. His older brother, William, arrived in Sydney as a convict and joined him in Melbourne after he obtained his freedom.
